William Osborn

William Osborn is a Boston venture capital manager who has also been an entrepreneur, management consultant and attorney. He has been a special partner with Arete Corporation, which manages $135 million in utility industry investments, where he has been responsible for monitoring investments in companies in the telecommunications, software and energy industries. Prior to that he was a principal at Venture Investment Management Company, LLC (VIMAC), which manages "angel" investments in early stage companies. 

At VIMAC Mr. Osborn focused on energy, environmental, education and healthcare opportunities. Mr. Osborn has been an entrepreneur in the environmental and energy field, founding and managing an electric vehicle distribution subsidiary for a major utility company and starting a business development consulting firm. He also co-managed a venture capital fund for automaker BMW and was a management consultant with Arthur D. Little, where he led a consulting practice involved with new energy technologies and managed due diligence for investment companies evaluating acquisition candidates. 

Prior to his consulting work, Mr. Osborn practiced law and managed a state government office promoting solar energy. Mr. Osborn sits on the boards of several start-up and expansion-stage companies, including Evergreen Solar, Inc. (photovoltaic modules), World Power Technologies, Inc. (power quality instrumentation), Evolutionary Technologies, Inc. (enterprise software for applications integration), Surgical Sealants, Inc. (surgical wound products), Fingerlakes Aquaculture LLC (recycled-water aquaculture), and Conservation Services Group (energy efficiency services). He is a founding Trustee of the Domini Social Equity Fund and Board Member of Investors’ Circle, where he has also chaired the Selection Committee that chooses companies to present to members for investment. He has a BA from Princeton University and a JD from George Washington Law School.

Elizabeth Bailey

Elizabeth Bailey joined Commons Capital in the fall of 2001 and has focused on investment opportunities in the health care, education and environment sectors. Her work spans deal sourcing, due diligence, investment recommendations, and portfolio management. 

Elizabeth has worked with numerous health care companies in the medical device, biotech, services and IT segments, with a particular emphasis on those developing solutions for diagnosing and treating neglected diseases. She also leads the fund’s K-12 and corporate training investments and serves as a board observer to Apex Learning. Elizabeth currently serves or has served as a board observer to CodeRyte, Combinent Biomedical Systems, HistoRx, Medical Metrx Solutions, TelaDoc and Valeo Medical. In the environmental arena, Elizabeth has focused on the natural products segment and serves as a board observer to Niman Ranch. 

Before Commons Capital, Elizabeth was a Consultant with Stax, Inc., a Cambridge, MA-based management consulting firm, where she worked with the firm’s private equity clients and their portfolio companies. Elizabeth began her career in Massachusetts state government and holds a Masters in Public Policy from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government and a BA from Brown University.

Meg Wirth

Meg Wirth, is a global health strategy consultant to Commons Capital.  She has worked with Commons Capital to develop their global health strategy and partnerships over the last three years.  With Commons Capital, she co-led the development of a 2005 workshop entitled ‘Financing Global Health through Social Venture Capital’ funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates and Rockefeller Foundations. 
For the previous two years, she was a consultant to the UN Millennium Project for the Task Force (4) on Child Health and Maternal Health run out of Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health and a co-author of its final report.  She specializes in issue of maternal health and health equity.  From 1998 to 2002 she worked with The Rockefeller Foundation’s Health Equity Division overseeing the Global Health Equity Initiative, an international research and policy program documenting health disparities in 13 countries.  She worked on John Snow Inc.’s MotherCare project in Indonesia, as a manager for a major Safe Motherhood initiative and worked in Eastern Kentucky in the U.S. creating a novel outreach program for isolated rural pregnant teens. 

Meg Wirth has a master’s degree from Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs in the field of International development and an undergraduate degree from Harvard University.

Esmeralda Megally

Esmeralda recently obtained her MBA from MIT Sloan, where she mainly focused on Finance and Entrepreneurship. During her studies she served as co-president of the Sloan Entrepreneurs for International Development (SEID), a position which allowed her to advise MIT social inventors on their business strategies. She also holds an M.S. in Economics and has deal making experience in the biotech/medical device field as part of her internship at the MIT Technology Licensing Office. Esmeralda is also a founder at Aerovax, a startup that is developing a low-cost drug and vaccine delivery device for low-income settings. The invention, which was featured in Forbes.com, received the Award for International Technology at the MIT IDEAS competition in 2006 and was finalist at the MIT $100K Entrepreneurship competition in 2006.

In a volunteer role, Esmeralda is also the VP for Technology & Innovation at the India School Fund, a non-profit volunteer organization started at Harvard Business School to develop entrepreneurship in the poorest regions of India.
